Adaptive Re-Use Pre-Visualization
Alentejo, Portugal
Heredade de Saudade
Mohino is the second “ruin” that Foresite was asked to visualize on the Jai Healing Farm, in Alentejo, Portugal. Having established a successful design language for the resort’s expansion, the team at Foresite focused on another of the farm’s dilapidated structures to visualize for renovation concepts. The results iterated on the aesthetic previously adopted by the resort while renovating it’s Casona “ruin”, allowing for clear design direction and site plans for the contractor, and continuity across multiple adaptive re-use projects on the grounds of the resort.
The interior layout was strategically designed to maximize functionality and seamlessly integrate the three separate houses into a cohesive and unified space. This not only complied with regulatory constraints but also contributed to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the boutique hotel.
In addition to the interior enhancements, we embarked on an exterior project utilizing locally-sourced stones to harmoniously blend the structures with the natural surroundings.
The incorporation of pools and terraces further enhances the guest experience, providing direct access to each room while fostering a sense of openness and connection with the serene Alentejo landscape.
The result is a boutique hotel that not only respects the historical and regulatory context of the region but also offers a unique and immersive experience for guests, combining the charm of the existing structures with modern amenities and a carefully crafted outdoor environment. We are proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life and contributing to the cultural and architectural tapestry of Alentejo.
